  • Mali Coin Beads Mali Coin Beads
    A strand of 50 silver coin metal Mali squashed bicone beads strung on string which measures approx. 26". The beads are approx. 14-16 mm by 10-12 mm. Please note that these beads are made by hand out of recycled metal and will vary in shape and size within the strand. The string you will receive will be similar to the one you see in the photo but might have some variations. These beads were found for Funky Frog by a Trader in the Kejetia Market in Kumasi, Ghana. These beads are becoming hard to find as Mali is struggling at this time.
  • Funky Frog orders a lot from the Kokofrom Cooperative outside Kumasi. These tiny silver heishi or spacer beads were made especially for Funky Frog . The process these Metal Smiths are using is the same as their ancestors... back then it was gold now it is any metal they can get their hands on!! If you would like to see the intricate process check out the blog here ... The silver spacer beads are 3mm. $5/20 heishi beads
  • A strand of Heishi Silver Metal Spacer Beads found by Funky Frog's Trader in Ghana and probably made in Kenya.These heishi beads are 4 mm strung on raffia 24" long. These beads are great for any project as an added touch.
  • Ornate engraved silver metal ring found in the Tamale Market in Ghana.  The ring varies in size from about 19.5mm to 23 mm in diameter on the inside. The rings are flat with the engravings cover 3/4 of the surface.  The rings are  handmade so there is a variation in design and size between the bracelets. Please contact us if you would like a specific ring which we can measure with a ring measurer or we will send you one like in the photo.
  • Silver metal ring with a flat engraved top found in the Tamale Market in Ghana.  The ring varies in size from about 18.5mm to 22.5 mm in diameter on the inside. This ring is quite thick. The rings are  handmade so there is a variation in design and size between them.   • A strand of Silver Metal Spacer Beads handcrafted in Ghana by jewelry smiths  strung on raffia 26" long. These beads were found in one of the largest markets of West Africa in Kumasi, Ghana. The beads are approx. 11x20 mm.

The beads are well made and are probably made with the old coins these beads are named for. These beads were found in Koforidua Market in Ghana. These beads were found in Koforidua Market in Ghana.

The bead you will receive will be similar to the one in the photo.  These beads were found in Koforidua Market in Ghana. The Mali Coin Beads are said to be made of recycled old coins in Mali. Hence the name.  These beads have the solidity and heft of old coins. There is delicate engraving on each bead. These beads are getting harder to find especially ones of this quality. The Traders blame this on Mali's difficulties.

(so in actual fact only order five and i will put in the free one :) My affection for these beads grew when I heard that these 'Spindles' actually evolved into the beads they are today because of our avid collectioner's heart (all Beaders have one of those!) Originally these Spindles were actually made to spin cotton but then people started collecting them because they were so beautiful. They became rare .. so some enterprising people started making new ones but more as the beads they are today... They are so beautiful and evoke the country, Africa just by handling them and by the fact they are made of Africa's earth.

    Two strands of tiny delicate clay beads from Mali strung on rafia about 34" long. The beads are a uniform terracotta colour. These were bought directly from a Bead Trader in Ghana, W. Africa. There are two slight variations in the strands: 2nd image is Mini-1 and 3rd image is Mini-2. You will receive one of those pairs. If you have a preference please contact us.
