Bauxite Beads

2 strings of tiny Bauxite Beads strung on raffia 14″ long. There are approx. 124 beads which are 3×2 mm. The beads are polished and have an earthy look. These beads were bought directly from the Beadmakers in Akyem Abompe in Ghana where they are handcrafted in a very labour intensive process starting from mining the bauxite from the nearby hills to drilling the holes. These bauxite beads have become scarce as the young people leave the villages.
