These Vintage Red Vinyl Beads are strung on string and a strand is 34″ long.The majority of the ‘heishi’ beads are about 19 mm. You will receive one of the strands of beads in the photos (the strands are very similar). These Vinyl Beads make great spacer beads. There is a band of mixed yellow and red vinyl beads which are about 14mm. These unique thin disc (heishi) beads which are made with vulcanite, a vulcanized hard rubber and traces of vinyl (some of the older vinyl beads are made from recycled vinyl records) are a very popular item at Funky Frog. There are new Vinyl Beads in all sorts of bright vivid colours and sizes. The new vinyl beads are slightly rougher and not as smooth and silky as the older vintage vinyl beads. These older Vintage Vinyl Beads are sought after and are becoming harder to find. The Vintage Vinyl Beads will be labeled Vintage. During a Bead Hunt Funky Frog made a big order from the Kokofrom Cooperative outside Kumasi. These bells were made especially for Funky Frog . The process these metal smiths are using is the same as their ancestors... back then it was gold now it is any metal they can get their hands on!! Large and small Brass Nugget beads ... these make gorgeous accent beads.. one of a kind find! For generations a spectacular range of brass beads and pendants have been produced across Africa including small anvil-shaped nugget charms known as "Igbo bugs" popular among the Fulani. The tradition of metalworking in Africa is very much alive. And these nugget "Igbo bugs" type beads were produced for Funky Frog by the Metal Smiths in Kumasi, Ghana." They were received particularly well in the town of Kakamba in the Republic of the Congo – hence the name Kakamba Prosser Beads. -

Desiree designs, glazes and fires the beads in her pottery studio. These colourful beads captured my heart and are amongst the few beads i don't actually go and buy (though it is definitely on my bucket list!) Funky Frog has over the years gathered quite a collection. With Desiree's blessing Funky Frog is offering some of these beads. This way i can destash a bit so i can buy more!!! Always more!!
