    A strand of about 52 hand painted, translucent Recycled Glass Beads strung on string 20" long. These beads are sometimes called bottle glass beads and once made are painted by hand. Some of the designs on these beads resemble eyes and eye beads were used to ward off evil spirits and when worn would protect the wearer from harm. These beads are a clear translucent green tinted glass with white designs. They are handmade so will vary in size and colours. Each bead is approx. 11x9 mm. These beads are made by recycling previously used beads, Ghana's answer to Fimo Beads! The beads are melted together in a clay oven to make this beautiful mosaic of colors.   • 2 bracelet sized strands of 31 short tubular shaped Sandcast Beads strung on string 10" long. The beads are 11x8 mm and are an oatmeal with brown/yellow circle in the middle. These recycled glass beads were handcrafted in Ghana, Africa by crushing old, discarded glass, adding colorant and then pouring the powder into clay molds. The stem of a local plant is added, this burns away during firing, leaving a hole for stringing. The beads are fired in a wood burning earthen oven. Ghana is famous for this type of bead. There are smaller beads with a similar design to this one as shown in the last photo.. There are also larger beads this same oatmeally colour as shown in the last photo..

These recycled glass beads were handcrafted in Ghana, Africa by crushing old, discarded glass, adding colorant and then pouring the powder into clay molds. The stem of a local plant is added, this burns away during firing, leaving a hole for stringing. The beads are fired in a woodburning earthen oven. Ghana is famous for this type of bead.
