These recycled glass beads were handcrafted in Ghana, Africa by crushing old, discarded glass,, adding colorant and then pouring the powder into clay molds. The stem of a local plant is added, this burns away during firing, leaving a hole for stringing. The beads are fired in a woodburning earthen oven. Ghana is famous for this type of bead. -

A strand of about 35 hand painted Recycled Glass Beads strung on string 29" long. These beads are white with green, red and brown designs. They are handmade so will vary in size and colours. Each bead is rectangular and approx. 10x18 mm. These beads were found in the market and are unusual. -
A strand of 6 hand painted Recycled Glass Beads. These beads are sometimes called bottle glass beads and once made are painted by hand. The design on some these beads resemble eyes and eye beads were used to ward off evil spirits and when worn would protect the wearer from harm. The bead is a bottle glass. These beads are handmade so will vary in size and colour. Each bead is about 12x14mm. You will receive a strand similar to one of the strands in the photo. This is a way for you to get a variety for your beading. If you would like a strand all the same colour please do not hesitate to contact us. And also remember for most of the strands we will be happy to break them up if you would like to have only a few. These recycled glass beads were purchased straight from the small factory which hand crafts them using the methods of their ancestors, from crushing recycled bottles all the way to firing them in a wood burning oven. These beads are handmade for Funky Frog by the innovative Tet Beads so will vary in shape, colour and size within the strand. These beads have a lovely earthy look and feel. A strand of whimsical mixed red and white Recycled Glass beads on string 21" long. These recycled beads were bought directly from the small factory in Accra, Ghana where the artisans hand make the beads in the labor intensive method of their ancestors from crushing glass to baking the final product in wood ovens. These beads are made by recycling previously used beads. The beads are melted together in a clay oven to make this beautiful mosaic of colors. -

A Contemporary Bodom style Yellow Glass Bead with a blue swirled teardrop inlay made to look like Old Trade Beads. These were found in the Agboblushi Market in Accra ... the trader said they were from Abijhan, Cote d'Ivoire ... they remind me of fimo beads with a soft smooth feel .. the bead is round but squashed about 13x22 mm with a large almost 3mm hole .. the beads are handcrafted so will vary quite a bit in shape, size and pattern. You will receive on that looks like the beads in the photo. $3/bead -
