Brass Heart Pendants .... some were found in Ghana's beads markets and some were made for Funky Frog by the Kokofrom gang near Kumasi in Ghana. These hearts are handmade and you will not find two that are exactly the same even though they could be the same design! The heart is a symbol that needs no research or explanation ... :) Ghana is famous for Lost Wax Brass beads.... The process these metal smiths are using is the same as their ancestors... back then it was gold now it is any metal they can get their hands on!! Everything is used in Ghana ... even the byproducts of animals for food. The heart pendants are handmade from leather by-product. The hearts are 2 1/2 x 2 1/2". -

A strand of approx. 66 Bauxite Beads strung on raffia 26" long. The beads are a real mix of sizes and shapes. The largest bead is approx. 45 mm around by 15 mm and smallest is about 14 mm x 6 mm. These beads were bought from Traders at Ghana's Bead Markets. These beads are made by the Beadmakers in Akyem Abompe in Ghana where they are handcrafted in a very labour intensive process starting from mining the bauxite from the nearby hills to drilling the holes. Bauxite is a type of aluminum ore. Bauxite Beads are a beautiful mix of Autumn browns ranging from quite a light almost orange brown to a deep rich brown. They give a necklace a natural look and feel. This strand is quite unusual as some of the beads are carved. -
A strand of approx. 31 Bauxite Beads strung on string 35" long. The beads are a real mix in size from approx. 45 mm x 14 mm to 15 mm x 12 mm. These beads were bought from Traders at Ghana's Bead Markets. A strand of about 39 pink Sandcast Recycled Glass Beads strung on string 23" long. The beads are around 15x10 mm. These recycled glass beads were handcrafted in Ghana, Africa by crushing old, discarded glass, adding colorant and then pouring the coloured powder into molds. The stem of a local plant is added, this burns away during firing, leaving a hole for stringing. The beads are fired in a woodburning earthen oven. Ghana is famous for this type of bead. These beads were designed and made by a Contemporary Bead Designer, TET located near Accra. -
