This Bodom Bead is a squashed bicone  and is 22mmH x 46mmW . This large bead is rust red with the 'evil eye'  designs. The hole is about 5 mm. The bead has a rough, earthy, organic feel to it. We are displaying only two of these beads but there are more and  they will have slight variations in the colouring of the 'evil eye' so if you would like to see your exact bead please contact us and  we will send you a photo ....   • A large bracelet sized strand of about 12 extra large hand painted Recycled Glass Beads which is strung on string. The beads are about 30x16 mm and are a white and red Sandcast Bead with a Handpainted orange design. The beads are all handcrafted so will vary in colour, size and shape. The strand you will received will be similar to the photo but may have variations in colours. These recycled glass beads were handcrafted in Ghana, Africa by crushing old, discarded glass, adding colorant and then pouring the powder into clay molds. The stem of a local plant is added, this burns away during firing, leaving a hole for stringing. The beads are fired in a wood burning earthen oven. The beads are then hand painted and then refired. The painstaking process of each bead being made by hand with powder glass. These Bodoms are contempory but made in the old style and look really vintage. These beads were bought directly from the Beadmakers in Akyem Abompe in Ghana where they are handcrafted in a very labour intensive process starting from mining the bauxite from the nearby hills to drilling the holes.These beads are becoming rarer. Bauxite Beads are a beautiful mix of Autumn browns ranging from quite a light almost orange brown to a deep rich brown. They give a necklace a natural earth look and feel.
  • A string of about 40 football shaped solid  brass with a design  beads strung on raffia 25" long. Each bead is 10 mm x14 mm. These beads are handcrafted in Ghana using the Lost Wax Method of casting brass that has been in use for centuries.
  • A gorgeous strand of 32 colourful Fused Recycled Glass beads on string 22" long. These recycled beads were bought directly from the small factory, TK Beads in Accra, Ghana where the artisans hand make the beads in the labor intensive method of their ancestors from crushing glass to baking the final product in wood ovens. These beads are made by recycling previously used beads, Ghana's answer to Fimo Beads! The beads are melted together in a clay oven to make this beautiful mosaic of colors. Each bead is approx. 14 x19 mm. The beads are handcrafted so will vary in size and shape but they are all a hexagon or 6 sided shape. The Rainbow Collection consists of three size of round beads, 3 sizes of disk beads, a long oblong bead and a hexagon shaped bead.

  • A strand of approx. small Bauxite Beads strung on raffia 24" long. The beads are approx. 7 mm. The beads are polished and have an earthy rough hewn look. These beads were bought directly Hidir, a Trader in Koforidua, Ghana. He was telling me these beads are becoming harder and harder to get as  they are handcrafted in a very labour intensive process starting from mining the bauxite from the nearby hills to drilling the holes and as the older generation retires no one takes their place as the Craftsman cannot make a reasonable living. Bauxite Beads are a beautiful mix of Autumn browns ranging from quite a light almost orange brown to a deep rich brown. These beads tend towards the lighter earthy colours. They give a necklace a natural look and feel.
