There is a small village, Kokofrom just outside Kumasi, Ghana where there are artisans who make lost wax brass beads in the same way as their ancestors. These brass disk were made for Funky Frog. The brass disks are great spacers and give the project something a bit different. These disks are about 1x7-11mm. They are handmade so will vary in size, shape and colour. The artisans use whatever scrap metal they can get their hands on from old taps to pipes to .. but they call it 'brass'. 10 disks / $5 -

This is a mixture of three designs, two are cross hatches and the third is more solid with a circular design. You will get a mix like in the photo. $5/6 beads -

Silver coin metal Mali squashed bicone beads that are approx. 10 mm x 15 mm. Please note that these beads are made by hand out of recycled metal and will vary in shape and size. The bead you will receive will be similar to the one you see in the photo but might have some variations. These beads were found in Koforidua Market in Ghana. We also have strands of these beads in various sizes. -
These small brass bells are about 11mm. The bells don't make a noise when shaken on their own but paired up they make a lovely jingle. There are now 4 sizes in this bell... xtra large, large, medium and small ... these are the smallest size. $2/bead -

Just in from Ghana!!! ..... A strand of 55 silver coin metal Mali squashed bicone beads strung on string which measures approx. 26". Or a strand of 12 beads if you only need a few for a project. The beads are approx. 14-16 mm by 10-12 mm. Please note that these beads are made by hand out of recycled metal and will vary in shape and size within the strand. The string you will receive will be similar to the one you see in the photo but might have some variations. These beads were found for Funky Frog by a Trader in the Koforidua Beads Market, Ghana. These handmade beads are said to be made by melting old silver coins or scrap silver metal and reusing the material. In recent years, these beads are becoming more and more difficult to find as many of the traditional artisans leave the villages in pursuit of new opportunities as well as because of the strife Mali is experiencing. These hollow Mali beads are light-weight and fun to use. I have a standing order with my Traders and one of them found these for me about a year later. Often now these beads are not well made but strands only have a few beads with very slight imperfections. The strands with larger real imperfections were broken up to make the small 12 beads strands. These beads always have a few slight imperfections.. it makes them interesting. -

Beautiful Lost Wax Brass Elephant Pendants.... handmade for Funky Frog by the Kokofrom guys in Kumasi. When you think of Africa you think of Elephants! "Elephants are highly intelligent animals with complex emotions, feelings, compassion and self-awareness (elephants are one of very few species to recognize themselves in a mirror!). The gestation period of an elephant is 22 months. That's almost 2 years, the longest pregnancy of any mammal! And they are the largest land animal on earth!"
