    A strand of about 47 hand painted Recycled Glass Beads strung on string 22" long. These beads are sometimes called bottle glass beads and once made are painted by hand. Some of the designs on these beads resemble eyes and eye beads were used to ward off evil spirits and when worn would protect the wearer from harm. There is a mix of green, taupe, clear, white and blue glass beads with various designs hand painted on them. They are handmade so will vary in size and colours. Each bead is approx. 11x14 mm. These recycled glass beads were purchased straight from the small factory which hand crafts them using the methods of their ancestors, from crushing recycled bottles all the way to firing them in a wood burning oven.   • A strand of about 97 translucent light green Recycled Glass Beads in the shape of a tear drop strung on string 21" long. These translucent beads are about 10x15 mm. These beads are handmade so will vary in size and shape and even colour. These recycled glass beads were purchased straight from the small factory which hand crafts them using the methods of their ancestors, from crushing recycled bottles all the way to firing them in a wood burning oven.
  • A strand of about 41 Sandcast Recycled Glass Bodom Beads with a turquoise, yellow and red design strung on string 24" long. The beads are around 14 x 15 mm. These recycled glass beads were handcrafted in Ghana, Africa by crushing old, discarded glass, adding colorant and then pouring the coloured powder in layers into  molds. The stem of a local plant is added, this burns away during firing, leaving a hole for stringing.   The beads are fired in a woodburning earthen oven. Ghana is famous for this type of bead.
  • A strand of green Sandcast Recycled Glass Beads strung on string 24" long. The beads are around 4 mm round. These recycled glass beads were handcrafted in Ghana, Africa by crushing old, discarded glass, adding colorant and then pouring the powder into clay molds. The stem of a local plant is added, this burns away during firing, leaving a hole for stringing. These tiny beads are the most labour intensive. There are two sizes for this colour as you will see in the photo. This strand is the smaller beads. The beads are fired in a woodburning earthen oven. Ghana is famous for this type of bead.

These recycled glass beads were handcrafted in Ghana, Africa by crushing old, discarded glass, adding colorant and then pouring the powder into clay molds. The stem of a local plant is added, this burns away during firing, leaving a hole for stringing. These tiny beads are the most labour intensive. The beads are fired in a woodburning earthen oven. Ghana is famous for this type of bead.

  • A strand of 53 Clay  beads in the shape of dice from Mali strung on string 25" long.  The beads range from 12 mm. These beads are handmade and therefore each string is slightly different from the others with a variation in the geometric design. These are old beads so might be pitted and a one bead in the strand could be broken..

These beads are handmade and therefore each string or bead  is slightly different from the others with a variation in the geometric design.   • A large  gorgeous Silver Coin Metal Mali  squashed Bicone Bead. The bead will be 27-29 mm x 20 -21 mm. These beads are handmade so will vary in size and shape. The bead you will receive will be similar to the one in the photo.  These beads were found in Koforidua Market in Ghana. The Mali Coin Beads are said to be made of recycled old coins in Mali. Hence the name.  These beads have the solidity and heft of old coins. There is delicate engraving on each bead. These beads are getting harder to find especially ones of this quality. The Traders blame this on Mali's difficulties.

    Brass Star Pendants .... small, medium and large. Handcrafted by the Kokofrom Cooperative for Funky Frog. The small village, Kokofrom is just outside Kumasi, Ghana where the  Artisans  make lost wax brass beads in the same way as their ancestors.  
  • A strand of 71 sea blue Recycled Glass Beads strung on string 18" long. These beads are size 1 (about 5 mm in diameter). The beads are unpolished and natural. Photos don't do these beads justice as they are translucent so it seems somehow the camera can't quite catch them! They are handmade so colour, size and shape vary.
