These recycled beads were bought directly from the small factory in Accra, Ghana where the artisans hand make the beads in the labor intensive method of their ancestors from crushing glass to baking the final product in wood ovens.
  • A strand of about 27 tube shaped Recycled Glass Beads on string 24" long. There is a range of colours, textures, colours and shapes! You will receive a strand similar to the one in the photo with some variations. Ghana is famous for these recycled beads made from recycled glass bottles. These recycled beads were bought directly from the small factory in Accra, Ghana where the artisans hand make the beads in the labor intensive method of their ancestors from crushing glass to baking the final product in wood ovens. These recycled glass beads were handcrafted in Ghana, Africa by crushing old, discarded glass, adding colorant and then pouring the powder into clay molds. The stem of a local plant is added, this burns away during firing, leaving a hole for stringing. The beads are fired in a wood burning earthen oven. Ghana is famous for this type of bead.

  • A strand of Kakamba Prosser Beads about 30" long. The glass beads are about 6-9 mm in diameter. These are great spacer beads. You will receive the strand displayed. Prosser beads are by extension any beads made by the 'Prosser' technique, invented by the Prosser brothers in 1840 in England for the purpose of making buttons. The process consists of molding a cold paste under great pressure and then firing it. Prosser Beads were distinct from other European trade beads in that they were produced in a great variety of colors, and were also translucent. They were received particularly well in the town of Kakamba in the Republic of the Congo – hence the name Kakamba Prosser Beads.

While research this bead i could not find any related beads except the glass beads coming from India ... if anyone know these beads please contact us! The beads are about 13x29 mm. These were found in the Agboblushi Market in Accra ... the trader said they were from Abijhan, Cote d'Ivoire ... they remind me of fimo beads with a soft smooth feel .. the bead is round but squashed about 13x22 mm with a large almost 3mm hole .. the beads are handcrafted so will vary quite a bit in shape, size and pattern. These recycled beads were bought directly from the small factory, TK Beads in Accra, Ghana where the artisans hand make the beads in the labor intensive method of their ancestors from crushing glass to baking the final product in wood ovens. These beads are made by recycling previously used beads, Ghana's answer to Fimo Beads! The beads are melted together in a clay oven to make this beautiful mosaic of colors. Each bead is approx. 12-13 mm. The beads are handcrafted so will vary in size, colour and shape.

These beads are size 3 or about 9 mm round. The beads are handmade so will vary in colour, size and shape within the strand. Tet, a Bead Maker in Accra with a very contempory leaning made these beads for Funky Frog. Usually Ghana's recycled beads are quite rough, Tet Beads was the first place Funky Frog found these polished glass beads. Remember these beads are made by hand so each bead is polished individuallly. These particular polished beads come in 2 sizes . There are this size 3 (9 mm)  and size 4 (12 mm).
