These Recycled Glass beads have an earthy, natural feel and look. Ghana is famous for these recycled beads made from recycled glass bottles. Option 1 is a strand of about 40 17 mm translucent Moss Green Recycled Glass Beads on string 25" long. Option 2 is one 17 mm translucent Moss Green Recycled Glass Bead. These recycled beads were bought directly from the small factory in Accra, Ghana where the artisans hand make the beads in the labor intensive method of their ancestors from crushing glass to baking the final product in wood ovens.

A gorgeous old clay bead about 24 x 14 mm with a carved circle designs that are brushed with a brick colour... ... i just love this bead! This is one of those beads that would look so great just as a handful in a bowl... Please note that these beads were handmade so each bead varies. There are 3 sizes of this bead - this bead is the one in at the far right of the photo. You can see the Large Beads if you click here or the Medium beads if you click here. You will receive a bead that is similar to the ones in the photo. My affection for these beads grew when I heard that these 'Spindles' actually evolved into the beads they are today because of our avid collectioner's heart (all Beaders have one of those!) Originally these Spindles were actually made to spin cotton but then people started collecting them because they were so beautiful. They became rare .. so some enterprising people started making new ones but more as the beads they are today... They are so beautiful and evoke the country, Africa just by handling them and by the fact they are made of Africa's earth.

There is a small village, Kokofrom just outside Kumasi, Ghana where there are artisans who make lost wax brass beads in the same way as their ancestors. I asked them to create some closures for Funky Frog and this was the most exotic one! Each half of the closure is about 35mm. The closures are hand made so will vary in size and shape. The artisans use whatever scrap metal they can get their hands on form old taps to pipes to .. but they call it 'brass'.

A strand of colourful Handpainted Recycled Glass Beads strung on string 26" long. These beads vary in size, design and colour. The shape is tubular. This strand would make a fabulous necklace as is or broken up would brighten up any project. Definitely one of my favourites!! The bead is also sustainable as it is made of crushed glass bottles ground to a fine powder. Each bead is then handpainted. A little work of art!!

New colours in African Recycled Glass Beads ... a whole array of pastel colours ! The beads were created by the innovative Bead Designer, Tet in Ghana, West Africa. These gorgeous beads are hand made using the ancient methods with a fresh and soothing, soft look. This particular strand is in the tones of a dusty rose... Again the photos don't do justice to the almost etheral quality of these beads - a very soft hue. This dusty rose is one of three pinks in the Pastel line. There is another pink which is the same hue but paler. This is a blushing watermelon pink whereas the other is more a pale beauty. The third pink is blush pink. There are 5 sizes in the Pastel Line. Size 6 - 17 mm/36 beads Size 5 - 15 mm/40 beads Size 4 - 12 mm/51 beads Size 3 - 10 mm/60 beads and Size 2 - 8 mm/72 beads.

6 beautiful small Brass Sun + Moon Beads. Approximately 12 mm x 20 mm in size. You will receive 6 beads similar to those in the image. These beads are handmade so will vary in size, shape and colour. These beads are made using the labour intensive Lost Wax method where a mould is made of beeswax. This is packed in a muddy mixture with a hole at the top. This whole crucible is heated so the beeswax mould melts and metal that has been melted on another fire is poured in replacing the beeswax! And remember this is done under a scorching sun!! Amazing to see. $12/ 6 beads
