A gorgeous old clay bead about 24 x 14 mm with a carved circle designs that are brushed with a brick colour... ... i just love this bead! This is one of those beads that would look so great just as a handful in a bowl... Please note that these beads were handmade so each bead varies. There are 3 sizes of this bead - this bead is the one in at the far right of the photo. You can see the Large Beads if you click here or the Medium beads if you click here. You will receive a bead that is similar to the ones in the photo. My affection for these beads grew when I heard that these 'Spindles' actually evolved into the beads they are today because of our avid collectioner's heart (all Beaders have one of those!) Originally these Spindles were actually made to spin cotton but then people started collecting them because they were so beautiful. They became rare .. so some enterprising people started making new ones but more as the beads they are today... They are so beautiful and evoke the country, Africa just by handling them and by the fact they are made of Africa's earth.

A Translucent Purple Glass Bead with a tiny white flower imbedded. The bead is about 20 mm with a large hole. These glass beads were found in a Bead Market in Ghana, W. Africa but probably found its way there from India. This purple is very hard to photograph. It is definitely a soft translucent purple. Purple is a very complex colour. There are so many variations. It is said purple symbolizes magic, mystery, spirituality, the sub-conscious, creativity, dignity, royalty – and it does evoke all of these meanings more so than any other color. Further variations of purple can convey different meanings. For instance light purples are light-hearted, floral, and romantic. The dark shades are more intellectual and dignified. You either love purple or you don’t. It was the one colour most people asked for before the 2020 Bead Hunt!!
